This is a question I’m regularly asked by executives and entrepreneurs. My response always depends on their intentions. Do they want to foster a high-performing team? Do they wish to stimulate group participation and idea generation? Are they seeking to boost creativity and innovation? Would they like their team members to demonstrate their leadership capabilities and reach their full potential? If these are the goals, then public speaking must be considered a necessary skill for all of them.

Organizations often seek to foster the growth of their staff by offering them training and management opportunities. There are numerous benefits to doing this, such as understanding culture and values, quickly adjusting to working routines, and making a good impression when vying for a promotion or an external job. Therefore, it would be unfortunate if staff were unable to demonstrate their best performance due to a lack of public speaking abilities. Fortunately, with practice, people can hone these skills and perform better in interviews or other professional settings.

For a workplace to thrive, organizations rely on mentors and coaches to assist with the transition of those taking up fresh roles or starting anew. Public speaking training enables employees to confidently assume such portrayals as mentors; if not for this, both the organization and the individual could suffer from an unfulfilled potential.

Ability to deal with customers more effectively

In order to provide good customer service, public speaking is essential. You have to deal with angry customers, disgruntled customers, curious customers, unfair customers, and customers who ask a lot of questions. Being confident and effective with your public speaking will make it easier for you to deal with your customers’ questions and objections.

Self-doubt and fear of speaking up or fear of public speaking can easily affect your self-esteem and self-worth. In my view, public speaking is an essential workplace skill, and organizations that invest in improving their staff’s public speaking skills will reap the benefits of doing so.
